Earlobe Repair Dallas
One of the down sides of wearing earrings are torn earlobes. This can result from heavy earrings, trauma, snags from clothing or misadventures with children. The tear may be partial or a full thickness, completely splitting the earlobe. Torn earlobes are unattractive and don’t allow you to show off those fabulous earrings!
Earlobe repair is a very simple process that takes about 15 minutes and is done using local anesthetic. The damaged edges are surgically corrected and carefully re-aligned. Tiny stitches are placed that are removed in 7 – 10 days. The recovery is also simple. You can immediately resume normal activities. A fine linear scar is visible for several weeks and fades with time. Re-piercing can be done in 6 weeks.
Dr. Light also performs earlobe reconstruction on gauged earlobes that have been severely stretched and thinned. Some patients have multiple piercings in the same ear that all tear – we have fixed as many as 4 in the same ear, which requires special techniques. Other people are either born with or acquire over time ‘big earlobes’ and request trimming and reshaping.
As we age, our earlobes can sag and ‘grow’ longer. Some earlobes get thinner and develop creases or wrinkles as well. This is exaggerated by wearing ear rings for years. The solution is simple. Injectable fillers are used to rejuvenate the thinned ear lobe. Adding volume helps expand and stretch the ear lobe for a more youthful appearance. We use Juvaderm to create this tissue-expanding earlobe effect. It is quick and easy to perform as Juvaderm® flows in quite nicely into the small space of the earlobe. A small volume of 0.2 to 0.3ccs is all that is needed per ear lobe. Fillers in the ear lobe usually stay around much longer than in any other area of the face, presumably due to the lack of any muscle movement in the treated area. We have seen volume retention for over a year. Patients can wear ear rings immediately thereafter. The whole procedure is quick and almost painless.
